    These guys are excellent. I remember Kermode's analysis of The Exorcist when it was re-released: broad-minded, very intelligent, and uncynical and unsceptical about the film's religious-faith values. Talk about an open mind. Charlie Higson reviewed it on TV at the same time: he might as well have just seen Frozen for all it meant to him. How could he not have been moved and then questioned his atheism?❤❤

    Has its moments (the opening scene is pretty harrowing), but inferior to the first chapter. Far too much CGI, looks fake and therefore kills the scares.

    The Deer Hunter is possibly the most self-indulgent film I've ever seen. It was clear even then that Michael Cimino enjoyed sniffing his own farts, but he was able to cloak it in the hot topic of the Vietnam War, which made his farts more palatable for everyone else. But Heaven's Gate really pulled the wool out from under your eyes, the guy was just insufferable.

    It's excellent. The only odd part is the poor grammar. A family of 20th century elitists would know the difference between subject and object pronouns. I think the writer needed a better editor.

    I come to this review from time to time, hoping more people watched this film. I genuinely think this film should be shown to aliens that haven't decided wheter or not this lonely rock of a planet deserves to be saved.

    It really made my appreciate simple slow life rhythm, not worring about things are not happining in the moment, as it's the oldest way to have a meaningful life, it is the way of all times I think. It is different and beautiful.

    The first 2/3rds of Nocturnal Animals is absolutely captivating. You cannot turn away. I think the last third, whilst remaining interesting and strong on the symbolism is a little thin. I wonder if anyone else feels this way?

    The scene where a character is explaining the bomb will go off after some time and JGL chimes in with the line "tHiS bOmB iS a TiMe BoMb" implies that Nolan does NOT think his audience is smart as he is.

    A terrible review. He doesn't have to like the film (I didn't) but he has nothing to say other than that he didn't understand it, which he seems to regard with a sort of pride. He then pads out this uninteresting piece of information with feeble, smirky English jokes, supposedly funny accents and a rehash of a Monty Python routine. This kind of bluff "britishness" (masking boring cultural conservativism and all-round intellectual timidity) is a national embarrassment

    Basically every Gerard Butler film I watch nowadays ends up surprising me. The posters and titles give the impression that the films are gonna be generic and pretty bad, and whilst a few of them are somewhat generic, I’m always left surprised.

    Starting to be completely puzzled by some of Mark's reviews of blockbusters in particular. I mean I know each to their own n all, but would anyone agree that this is much better than The Meg 2 which Mark gave a pretty glowing review for? I'm pretty convinced he's either convinced himself he loves The Meg 2 because it's Ben Wheatley (despite Mark denying it) or he just really really loves sharks (despite saying he didn't like the first one much). For me I actually had more fun with both the first Meg and this. The Meg 2, if you take Ben Wheatley out of your mind, seemed to me to be very much purely a cash in blockbuster. Ben Wheatley wanted some money, that's it if you ask me. He said a positive is it's bonkers and has loads of crazy stuff at the end (blockbusters tend to don't they??). Isn't this maybe more bonkers and has much more crazy stuff going on? I would argue yes. Also scarier and more daring when it came to gore. Very harsh review for me. Also the narrative of Meg 2 isn't anything to write home about. Far from it. At least here they are doing/trying something a bit different.

      I had a lot of fun with this, yet it seems to have been pretty much dismissed by many I am now realising. Could've done without the weird and slightly dodgy CGI of that cat though. Think quite possibly my only criticism.

  • @jameshardwick2726
    @jameshardwick2726 12 днів тому

    The main thrust of Kermode's argument is true: the Swedish film was a coming-of-age story that happened to involve Vampires, whereas the American film was a horror film that happened to involve children. They could have removed the vampire references in the Swedish movie and it still would have been great.

    Red headed giants were supposed to have fought the tribes and lived on in their legends the premise of the film was good but we needed more explanation. It reminded me of the 13 th warrior but not as epic.
